Kari Yang will be the 2019 Gerber Spokesbaby!
Kari comes from a culture call Hmong which promotes cohabited with immediate family member for as long as possible. This means that she lives with her parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. They all currently reside in Hickory, NC, and Kari is the first of her Hmong culture to be chosen for the prized Gerber baby.
“Hmong in our eyes is all about the close bonds we have with our relatives during life and afterlife,” Vue told TODAY.
Hmong speak their own language and decended from China, Vietnam, and Laos. With more than 170,000 descendants now residing in the USA.
“Being surrounded by all her family has been a very positive influence on Kairi’s life, especially when it comes to preserving our culture and tradition,” Vue, told TODAY earlier this week. “Kairi will grow up knowing how to read and write in Hmong, so that she can speak with her grandparents.” But for now, the little girl enjoys listening to nursery rhymes, building blanket forts and playing with her dad.”
The Gerber judge panel explained that the “wide-eyed curiosity and the look of wonder we saw in her eyes,” was the reason they chose Kairi.
We can definitely see those wondering beautiful eyes and are excited to see what this ambitious girl has in store for us in 2019!
